About Us: DALO was founded in 2010 and ever since has been growing steadily. We now have two bases of operation, in Barnet and Edgware, and over 50 young people attending the programme. At DALO we believe that every young person, regardless of the severity of their disabilities is able to become a productive member of society. Our mission is simple: we aim to empower every young person we work with to gain a considerable amount of independence, allowing them to live as fulfilling lives as possible, as well as giving those that we believe are able the confidence and skill-set to be able to enter the world of work.
The Programme: We deliver a programme that is both communal and person centred, as well as flexible to fit around other educational or occupational commitments. We believe it to be paramount that the young people build their social skills through interaction with others and through learning how to act as part of a group. At the same time, each young person has their own development plan and targets whilst we are also able to cater for those that need more one-to-one focused assistance to reach their goals.
We blend both social activities such as day trips, arts & crafts and sports with the life skills qualification, ASDAN, which builds up their knowledge of shopping, cooking, cleaning and general healthy living. This, combined with staff-assisted travel training, we believe lays the bedrock for the young people to not only acquire skills for potential employment, but also for life.
In addition, we also run a pick-up and drop-off service to make sure that everyone who wants to attend our programme, is able to.Most importantly however, DALO provides a fun, stimulating family atmosphere, which we believe to be a key factor in the success of the programme to date.
